Happy Birthday, America! - is an orchestral a celebration of the immigrants who built our highlands area and the music that they brought with them.
Featured on the program will be Alice Shumate's, "Highland" in a new orchestration, and guest artist, Josh Blount, on bagpipes!
The Highlands Community Orchestra will play an orchestration of Alice Shumate's song, "Highland", which she wrote in 1991. Josh Blount, from Franklin, WV, will play the 'small pipes' with the orchestra. He is the husband of one of the Orchestra's 1st violinists and also the Dad to a percussionist. The Scottish small pipes were the first widely available instrument which allowed Highland pipers to participate in musical sessions with fiddlers, flautists and other instruments.
