Tuesday Talk - Baked or Pickled?

Tuesday Talk - Baked or Pickled?

Tuesday, May 14, 2024 (2:00 PM - 3:00 PM) (EDT)

Description

Baked or Pickled? Getting Ready for the Highland County Fair!  Canning season is around the corner.

Come to the Center this month as we are joined by Macine Williams, leader of Judging School Virginia (sponsored by the Caroline County Agricultural (CCA) Fair Association, the Virginia Association of Fairs, and the Virginia Cooperative Extension). In addition to delivering judging certifications across the Commonwealth, Macine is Department Chair of the CCA Fair Home Goods Department and has been recipient of the 2020 Virginia Association of Fairs Person of the Year Award and the 2016 Hazel Staley Award. She will walk us through what our certified judges look for as they rate and rank your baked goods and preserved – canned, dried, or pickled – foods and how you can earn those blue ribbons!

Margie Fullerton (Department Chair for the Baked Goods & Preserved Foods Exhibit) will also be on hand to give you a sneak peek at changes to the 2024 department lineup so you can plan ahead as you enter your canning and preserving season.

You might even get a chance to take your turn at judging tasty treats provided as part of the session!
